Chercheur invité : Jens Damm
Jens Damm, an Assistant Professor at the Graduate Institute of Taiwan Studies, Chang Jung Christian University Tainan, is visiting IAO from Nov. 19 to Dec. 8, 2012, to collaborate with our colleague Stéphane Corcuff on his project related to “historical compared geopolitics of the Taiwan strait”, called Formosa Geopolitica.
Jens will teach a 18-hour class on Multiculturalism in Asia at Sciences-Po Lyon at undergraduate level and will give us a lecture at IAO on Dec. 6. “Cross-Strait Conflict and Cooperation in the CyberSpace”. Jens is also a board member of the European Association of Taiwan Studies (EATS e.v.), founded in 2004, which will hold the 10th European Congress of Taiwan Studies, at ENS de Lyon, on May 2-4, 2013.
His research is mainly focused at present on discourses on gender and ethnicity-related issues in Taiwan and Greater China, including the People’s Republic of China, and on the impact of new communication technologies.
His most recent publications are European Perspectives on Taiwan (VS Springer 2012, co-edited with Paul Lim), Taiwanese Identity in the 21st Century (Routledge, co-edited with Gunter Schubert), “The Multiculturalization of Taiwan: From a Unified Han-Identity to the ’Four Great Ethnic Groups,’” Berliner Chinahefte/Chinese History and Society (38/2012), and “The Cross-Strait Perception of the Taiwanese in Cyberspace,” Journal of Cyber Culture and information Society (Zixun shehui yanjiu) (21/2012).
He will be based in room R55 with Stéphane and can be joined there daily. He speaks German, English and Chinese.
